The U.S. operation of one of the world’s construction and civil engineering firms, Skanska USA undertakes sophisticated, large-scale building and infrastructure projects on behalf of clients in the public sector, healthcare, education and commercial sectors.

The challenge:

Despite being a global force in the construction and engineering industry, Skanska USA lacked brand awareness among potential clients and consumers in Florida when we launched our campaign in 2013. Florida represented one of the firm’s top national growth markets, but the state’s construction sector was largely dominated by local and regional competitors with less experience but stronger visibility in the key markets.

The solution:

Our campaign has systematically raised Skanska’s profile as the firm that takes on the most complex and important construction and infrastructure projects statewide, with an emphasis on Tampa, Orlando and South Florida.

At the same time, we have put the firm’s Florida leadership in position to serve as construction industry thought leaders with the goal of building brand awareness and credibility among target audiences. We have also raised the firm’s visibility in local markets through consistent media coverage, awards and recognition, and participation in community and industry events.

The results:

  • Skanska USA has grown to become the largest construction and civil engineering firm in Florida, with statewide revenues totaling more than $600 million in 2016.
  • The firm’s heightened visibility has supported efforts to win major contracts, including the Frost Science Museum in Miami, the reconstruction of the St. Petersburg Pier, the expansion of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, numerous projects on behalf of Jackson Health in Miami-Dade, and new educational buildings at University of Florida.
  • Our campaign has secured several prominent honors, including the Urban Land Institute’s “Project of the Year” (Frost Music School at University of Miami); Engineering News Record’s “Global Project of the Year” (Florida Polytechnic University in Lakeland); and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce “Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion” award
  • Members of the firm’s statewide leadership consistently serve as sources of market intelligence, both as thought leaders in the media and as participants in top-tier events and speaking opportunities across the state
