The competition for the right to redevelop the Miami Beach Convention Center and the surrounding land in partnership with the City of Miami Beach is rounding the home stretch. The two teams revealed detailed plans for their visions this week and one of the teams, South Beach ACE, is proposing a cultural and civic campus in the heart of South Beach.
The South Beach ACE team is made up of Tishman Development; OMA, an architecture firm led by Pritzker Prize-winner Rem Koolhaas; and Miami Beach-developer UIA Management, the firm behind the 1111 Lincoln Road project.
The team’s plan calls for a fully renovated and reconfigured convention center, a new-look Jackie Gleason Theater, activated green spaces, low density retail uses, and multiple links to Lincoln Road and nearby neighborhoods.
Another public meeting will be held on May 13 and Miami Beach commissioners will select a preferred plan in early June. We’ll keep you posted on future developments.
