With Hurricane Season upon us, it’s time for South Florida law firms to revisit – or, in some cases, create – their storm communications plan.
Research shows that only 26% of U.S. firms with up to 500 employees have a crisis response plan for natural disasters in place. That number rises to 38% among firms with more than 500 people. The data is clear: most companies are unprepared to manage their communications through a storm event.
Because hurricane activity typically peaks in September, there’s still time to prepare. That’s good news for Florida-based firms, as the Sunshine State braces for what is shaping up to be an especially active storm season. Experts are predicting between 7 and 25 named storms in the Atlantic basin, with up to 13 of those forecast to become hurricanes. In fact, Hurricane Beryl made history when it became the first Category 5 storm to form this early in the season.
Hurricane Season planning has taken on added relevance in Florida amidst an influx of new firms and practitioners, many of whom have little or no experience coping with storm impacts.
For law firms that thrive on providing a high level of client service, now is the time to prepare for the likelihood that your operations will be disrupted over the coming months.
