Paging Ray Kinsella: 5 minutes until curtain

Kevin Costner has earned A-list celebrity status for memorable roles ranging from ‘Crash’ Davis in “Bull Durham” and ‘Tin Cup’ McAvoy in “Tin Cup,” to Lt. Dunbar in “Dances With Wolves” and Ray Kinsella in “Field of Dreams.” Now it may be time to add another line to his long-list of credits: lead vocals and rhythm guitar.

KCMW_0Costner and his band, Modern West, are kicking off a spring tour that includes a gig at Miami’s Adrienne Arsht Center, where the boys will play to a sold-out crowd for the Center’s annual fundraising gala. The Costner name is such a big draw that tickets for the event nearly sold out before invitations even hit the mail late last week.

Numerous movie stars have attempted to straddle the world of film and music (paging Jack Black, Adam Sandler, Dolly Parton, Justin Timberlake…), but few have focused so intently on reinventing their career as a musician after years of making movies, as it seems Costner is now doing. His apparent motivation is a lifelong passion for music and a desire to connect with fans beyond signing autographs, reports the Miami Herald.

Looking forward to seeing Costner and Modern West take the Knight Concert Hall stage on April 28. Until then, see what all the rage is about in the group’s online video library.
