PR’s next step: The Golden Age?

Public relations naysayers should start reconsidering their opinions, says this story from the New York Observer. While the “death” of the industry at the hands of social media has been foretold for years now, recent numbers are pointing the opposite direction.

As the bad memories of the recession fade, clients are starting to spend again to unite their brand’s messages across the multiple channels and platforms that exist today. Rather than shut the coffin of PR, the “digital frontier” has been guiding the way towards new opportunities within the industry– namely, by multiplying the number of ways to tell a story.

More importantly, however, PR firms are no longer just telling the stories, but creating them. Their influence is growing, as a result, and rather than be at the end of an era, PR may very well be on the edge of a “Golden age.”
