It’s safe to say that public relations and journalism are two of the industries that have been most impacted by the emergence of social media.
With news traveling at the speed of a Tweet, ING created an infographic to look at the impact of social media on the news, and on both PR and journalism. Both public relations professionals and journalists from around the world contributed their two cents for the study, and the results are pretty interesting.
Some of the stats that stuck out related to how pervasive social media has really become in communications: over 78% of PR pros and 72% journalists say social media is important to their daily lives. More impressively, about 81% of PR professionals agree that their industry can no longer function without social media, while 68% of journalists would say the same about the news.
