I’ve always been a big proponent of pizza for breakfast. Despite its clear lack of nutrition, it always seems to do the trick. Well imagine a pizza that was meant for breakfast, loaded with bacon and eggs – sunny side up nonetheless. Now that’s a meal I’d get out of bed for.
Now you can roll out of bed and pop into Thea Pizzeria & Cafe for this delicacy before work any day of the week. This casual-chic pizzeria is located on the border of Wynwood just north of downtown Miami in the University of Miami Life Science & Technology Park, also known as the health district. (1951 NW 7 Ave, Miami)
From the second you walk in, you know this is this not your typical pizza joint. Each table is decorated with hydrangeas, my favorite flower, and a long wooden bar lines the back wall that is overlooked by a beautifully unique mosaic of flowers.
The menu offers much more than breakfast pizza – Thea has cooked up a variety of gourmet sandwiches that range from steak and caramelized onions to the chicken BLT that’s packed with avocado and garlic aioli. Thinking of eating on the lighter side? Try the beet salad with gorgonzola and walnuts – full of antioxidants and flavor. The menu also offers cheeseboards for the carnivore and vegetarian alike.
I suggest going with a few friends so you can share. After reading the pizza choices: ham & mushroom, spicy salami & mozzarella or artichoke, arugula & grana padano to name a few – you will not be able to just choose one.
Now that you are officially in a food coma, end your lunch with an Espresso granite (frozen espresso with whipped cream) which although it tastes like a dream, it’s also just the right amount of caffeine to keep you going the rest of the day.
Trust me, you’ll be back.
