Schwartz Media Strategies Appoints Yudi Fernández to Partner

Fernández becomes the first woman and first Hispanic to make partner at the Miami-based communications firm.

Florida communications firm Schwartz Media Strategies has named Yudi Fernández as a partner nearly a decade after she first joined the firm. Fernández, who was born in Cuba and emigrated to Miami at the age of nine, becomes the first woman and first Hispanic to join the firm’s ownership team, joining Tadd Schwartz and Aaron Gordon.

Fernández joined the firm following a career in journalism and soon developed a reputation for delivering sound client counsel to some of the largest companies doing business in Florida. She now leads multilingual media relations, marketing and social media campaigns on behalf of clients across the firm’s core practices, with an emphasis on commercial real estate, construction, financial services and municipal affairs. Her clients include JLL, Skanska USA, the Lincoln Road Business Improvement DistrictApollo Bank and Federal Realty Investment Trust. As a partner, she will take-on an expanded role focused on business development, firm marketing and mentorship within the 18-person agency.

Fernández has received numerous honors throughout her career, including CREW Miami’s President Award, which recognizes exceptional service and dedication to the organization. Fernández was also named a 2019 Latina of Influence in the U.S. by Hispanic Lifestyle Magazine. She often speaks at conferences across the U.S. on topics related to communications, branding and social media.

An active member of her community, Fernández supports programs that inspire others to pursue their dreams, including volunteering for Women of Tomorrow, a Miami-based mentoring and scholarship program for young women. She also volunteers for the After-School All-Stars Summer Camp program and visits inner-city schools to talk about her experiences as an immigrant growing up in the U.S., the importance of education, and her career in communications. Additionally, as a past chair of Switchboard of Miami’s Women’s Leadership Council, she promoted awareness and raised funds for the nonprofit’s counseling, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention services.

As a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), which advocates for responsible land-use practices, Fernández spearheads communications for the organization’s Southeast Florida/Caribbean Chapter as part of its Management Committee. Fernández is also a graduate of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s prestigious Leadership Miami program and served as a program facilitator.

Fernández was nine years old when her family and her exiled from Cuba to Miami, escaping political and socio-economic oppression. Growing up in Miami, she focused on excelling in her studies and earning scholarships to pay for her college education. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Florida and a Master’s in business administration from Nova Southeastern University. Today, she resides in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood.
